Born to be King: Bakken Bears begin new title quest with a home win



Bakken Bears didn`t wasted time to start a 2024-2025 campaign with a 83-72 home win against Bristol Flyers on Wednesday, October 2, at the Sparekassen Danmark basketball center in Aarhus, northern Denmark.

Urald King made it a night to remember as he was recognized the Vplab Player of the game.


Southeastern Oklahoma State University forward had 27 points for the winners on excellent 11/16 shooting from the field.


West Monroe, Louisiana native added seven rebounds and three assists.


From Deep South to Northern Europe – it`s nothing new for King as he has played in Iceland and Finland.


Jacob Polakovich had reasons to be proud too – as well as his fan army from the University of Southern Indiana.


Bears new center registered a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.


Bakken Bears captain Skyler Bowlin was huge for the hosts.


Missouri Southern State University star filled the stat sheet with 13 points, six assists and three steals.


Darko Jukič dished out a game high nine assists.


Demond Robinson led the Bristol Flyers with 19 points.


Fresh out of Kennesaw State University he shot 7/13 from the field and 5/7 from the free throw line.


Evan Walshe became the first Irish player to be recognized as the Vplab Player of the game.


Barry University star had 18 points, four rebounds and one steal.



Key stats

Bristol Flyers held Bakken Bears to 34 percent shooting accuracy in the first half.


Andreas Kapoulas and his men led after the first 20 minutes, 33-37.


The Bears stormed out of the gates and outscored their opponents, 50-35, the rest of the way.


Skyler Bowlin joined Aarhus offense and scored all his points in the second half.


He made three triples to diversify the Bears attack.


The Flyers struggled from the deep and finished with a unsatisfying 4/18 from the three point line.


Bakken Bears also improved their defense and scored more points off turnovers, 24-15.


The Flyers were better in steals made, 12-13.



Game notes

Anders Sommer and his men are 3-0 in all competitions after they lost the season opener against Horsens.


Five Bears finished in double figures, including Sylvester Berg and Terrence Hargrove – a recent graduate of Saint Louis University.


Bakken Bears are 2-0 against Bristol Flyers.
