Welcome TalTech Optibet!

Estonia will enlarge its representation in the European North Basketball league – TalTech Optibet enter the chat.

As you already know, the University of Tartu was founded in 1632 and will mark a 400 year anniversary in 2032.

The Estonians are well educated people and basketball is the game of the smart people so it`s not a big surprise when another “academic” team joins the ENBL.

Tallinn University of Technology – formerly Tallinn Technical University (Tallinna Tehnikaülikool, TTÜ in Estonian) – was founded in 1918 and is of the same age as the Estonian State.

On September 17, 2018, Tallinn University of Technology adopted a new short name – TalTech. It`s the third highest ranked university in the Baltic States, behind Tartu University and Vilnius University.

TTÜ basketball team was founded in 1951 and won eight Estonian championships (1961-1966, 1984, 1985).

After Estonia regained independence on August 20, 1991, the Tallinn team wasn`t as visible and spend some seasons outside the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML, Estonia`s top flight).

TTÜ earned three bronze finishes in the KML (2004, 2009, 2011) and played in some more semifinals as well to finish in the fourth place (2010, 2022).

The students were even more successful in the Estonian Cup.

TTÜ won the Estonian Cup in 2004 and reached the Final Four on four more occasions (final in 2009, bronze in 2021, the fourth place in 2014 and 2016).

Gregor Arbet, a long time Estonian international – represented the National team from 2002 until 2019 – spend last two seasons as a player with the TalTech (2018-2020).

An eight time KML champion and a five time Estonian Cup winner became the assistant coach and sports director of TalTech.

TalTech has women`s basketball team as well.
