Valmiera Glass ViA is the first club in European North Basketball league`s history to enter competition for the fifth year.

Latvian club finished winless in the first three seasons but turned the tables around during the fourth season.

Despite some setbacks, Valmiera turned into a much more formidable force.

Nikolajs Mazurs and his men posted six victories during the regular season to advance to the 2025 ENBL playoffs.

They defeated Newcastle Eagles on the home floor, 87-84, and later won at CSO Voluntari, 84-83.

Valmiera lost the quarterfinal series against then undefeated Inter Bratislava, 162-190.

They also finished fifth at the Optibet Latvia Estonia league regular season with a 17-11 record.

Players like Kahliel Spear and Rostyslav Novitskyi formed an impressive front court.

Rookie DaQuan Smith pulled the strings at point.

Nikolajs Mazurs took the coaching reins on February 9, 2024, replacing Oskars Virsis who guided the team during the previous ENBL campaign.

A daredevil from Bauska previously coached at Tartu (2021-2023) and Šiauliai (2023).

He signed a two year contract with Vidzeme club and is the first coach who has worked with three different ENBL teams.

Mazurs won the Latvian title with VEF Rīga in 2015 and worked with multiple national team players.

He won the Estonian Cup with Tartu and led them to the 2022 ENBL Final Four.

Vidzeme town has a strong youth system, supported by Dairis and Dāvis Bertāns.

Dairis returned to Latvia in 2023 and won two Latvian titles with VEF Rīga.

He added the Latvia and Estonia league crown in 2025.

Dāvis finished his NBA stint with the Charlotte Hornets to join Dubai Basketball in 2024.

United Arab Emirates powerhouse recently secured a five year wild card licence at the Turkish Airlines Euroleague (2025-2030).

Valmiera basketball school carries Bertāns family name.

Dainis Bertāns – a father of Dāvis and Dairis – is the third best scorer in Valmiera history after Jānis Kaufmanis and Sandis Amoliņš.

Dainis jersey #8 has been retired at the Vidzeme Olympic Center.

Brothers Bertāns have opened two outdoor basketball courts in Valmiera and Sigulda – with former dedicated to Kobe and Gigi Bryant.

They host an annual masterclass for the young players and serve as the guiding stars for Valmiera basketball.

BC Valmiera Glass/ViA is a student club of Vidzeme University, founded in 2009.

Valmiera Glass/VIA battled the rivals from Jelgava and Gulbene until 2018, when it was promoted to the newly founded Estonia and Latvia league.
