Mickelson and Puršl save the day as Basket Brno go 2-0




Basket Brno (2-0) withstood the comeback attempts by Valmiera Glass/ViA (0-4) to post a 79-77 win on Thursday, December 3, at the Tartu University Sports hall in southern Estonia.

Dean Hunter Mickelson stole the ball with 12 seconds left to deny Valmiera`s attempt to tie the game at 79.


Kansas standout scored four points and blocked one shot during the clutch time to finish the game with 18 points.


Mickelson set a new ENBL record and grabbed 21 rebounds in 26:22 minutes of action. He added four steals and two blocked shots.


Simon Puršl led Brno with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Rashad Kytel Madden (Arkansas 2015) produced a fine stat line – 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.


Jakub Necas made 3-of-4 three pointers enroute to 11 points.





Valmiera leader Jānis Kaufmanis scored 14 of his 21 points in the first half. Guard dished out five assists and forced four fouls.


Darious Clark stepped up in the second half. Slippery Rock standout hit three three-pointers to finish the game with 18 points.


Kārlis Apsītis chipped in with 13 points.



Key stats

Basket Brno won the battle of rebounds (48-40), dominated in the paint (44-24) and scored more second chance points (18-7).


Valmiera continued to struggle in offense throughout the first half to make only 35 percent of their field goal attempts.

Edmunds Valeiko team ended its shooting woes afterwards and made 8-of-12 three point shots after the break.


Kaufmanis, Clark and Apsītis were deadly from downtown to combine for a 9-of-18.


Brno bench outscored Valmiera 36-16.

In fact, Simon Puršl outscored Valmiera reserves 20-18.





Game notes

Dean Mickelson set a new ENBL record in rebounds (21).


Valmiera newcomer Ingus Jakovičs played only 08:33 minutes.
