Hymon, Kaufmanis, Mickelson, Puršl, Wembi: top performers in Tartu




Frontcourt players grabbed the headlines and posted some impressive stat lines during the European North Basketball league`s stage at Tartu on December 1-2.

Dean Hunter Mickelson averaged 16,5 points and 17,5 rebounds to lead Basket Brno to a 2-0 record at southern Estonia.

Kansas graduate added four steals and five blocked shots. Mickelson stole the ball with 12 seconds left to deny Valmiera`s attempt to tie the game at 79.


Mickelson earned a stage high efficiency rating of 54 (in two games).


Šimon Puršl led all scorers and averaged 19 points. Czech center made 14-of-23 field goal attempts and 8-of-10 free throws.


Puršl showed his versatility and hit 2-of-3 three point shots. He also dished out four assists.


Tartu Ulikool/Maks&Moorits players shared the ball and playing time enroute to wins over Valmiera Glass/Via 65-55 and Borisfen 100-75.


Emmanuel Wembi averaged 11,5 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts.


Lenoir-Rhyne standout proved to be a reliable passer too. Wembi dished out five assists in just 19:15 minutes of action against Borisfen.


Jānis Kaufmanis filled the stat sheet for Valmiera Glass/ViA. Experienced guard averages 9,8 points and 3,8 assists in the EWBL action.


Kaufmanis has struggled from the three point land so far, by making 5-of-25 field goal attempts. He`s been more successful closer to the basket. Kaufmanis has hit 12-of-23 two pointers.


BC Borisfen experienced baptism of fire at Tartu and Liepāja, facing international opponents from Czech Republic, Estonia and Latvia.


Center Marcanvis Hymon averaged 11,0 points and 8,3 points. Former Ole Miss center was fouled out twice but put up some great numbers too.


Hymon registered 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals in a 88-95 loss at Liepāja on December 4.
