Dziki Warszawa shine from the deep, grab a maiden win against Donar




First European game turned into the first win for Dziki Warszawa as the hosts prevailed over Donar Groningen, 95-79, on Wednesday, September 25, at the Hala Kolo in the Polish capital.

Rickey McGill continues to shine.


The 2024 ENBL Most Valuable Player led his new team with 20 points on excellent 7/9 shooting from the field.


A former Iona Gael added five assists and two steals.


Denzel Andersson fueled Dziki offense in the second half and scored 11 points.


Swedish forward contributed with three rebounds and three assists.


Janari Joesaar scored 16 points.


Estonian – and a former University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley forward – registered a game high four steals.


Piotr Pamula went 4/6 from the three point line to finish with 12 points.


Mateusz Szlachetka had seven points and a game high seven assists.


Keevan Veinot led all scorers with 22 points.


A former Dalhousie University guard added three steals for Donar Groningen.


Donar newcomer James Karnik had 17 points.


Zach Harvey – University of California at Santa Barbara graduate in 2023 – checked out with 16 points.



Key stats

Dziki Warszawa first jumped out of the starting blocks and led for 37 minutes.


The hosts trailed for a short time midway the second quarter after a series of turnovers.


Dziki regrouped fast and took a 49-38 lead at the half.


From then on, they maintained a double digit lead the rest of the way.


Dziki went 15/27 from the three point line – a pretty common efficiency nowadays as it was the seventh best result in the ENBL history in early 2024.


Four Warszawa players – McGill, Anderson, Joesaar, Pamula and Nick McGlynn – finished in double figures.


Overall, Dziki shot 56% from the field, including 55% from the three point line.


Donar Groningen shot 50%, including 56% effort from the deep, 9/16.


Dziki Warszawa had 24 assists on 31 field goals

Small orchestra performed in the stands, creating lovely atmosphere.


Shooting guard Mateusz Szlachetka scored first three ENBL points for Dziki Warszawa.


Center Filip Brankovič scored first three ENBL points for Donar Groningen.


Krzysztof Szablowski and Dziki Warszawa improved to 1-0.


Andrej Štimac and Donar Groningen dropped to 0-1.
