Double impact: Fayne, Matczak and King Szczecin strike again

King Szczecin strongly finished the first half and never looked back to secure a 87-78 win over Basket Brno on Tuesday, November 29, at the Netto arena in Szczecin.

Phil Fayne impressed again as he scored seven consecutive points in the fourth quarter to maintain a double digit lead for King Szczecin 84-73.


A former Illinois State Redbird had 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field.


Fayne grabbed a game high eight rebounds, disged out three assists and stole the ball twice.


Szczecin big man posted the best +/- ratio 14.


Filip Matzcak offered another solid performance.


The Sea Wolves captain had 15 points, four rebounds and four assists.


Zac Cuthbertson contributed with 14 points, including a perfect 2-of-2 shooting from the three point line.


A Coastal Carolina star scored two more points than yesterday.


Tony Meier outshined everyone else from the deep, as he connected 3-of-4 three point attempts.


A Milwaukee standout and a 2017 Czech champion collected 13 points.


Šimon Puršl led Basket Brno with 15 points.


Power forward added seven rebounds, two assists and six forced fouls.


Oleksandr Mishula scored 14 points, despite a 2-of-10 shootout from the deep.

He dished out five assists too.


Ričard Balint had 13 points, including a 3-of-7 shooting from the three point line.


Last but not least, Viktor Pulpan chipped in with 12 points and seven assists.



Key stats

King Szczecin players turned the ball over just nine times, compared to 16 turnovers for Basket Brno.


The Polish team excelled in transition and scored 25 points on fast breaks.


Basket Brno got 14 points this way.


King Szczecin also outscored the opponents in the paint 40-32 and shot the ball better from the three point line (9/23 vs 7/23).


Brno led by eight points early in the second half 19-27.


The stage hosts went on a 31-14 run to end the first half with a nine point advantage 50-41.



Game notes

King Wilki Morskie Szczecin improved to 2-0 to finish the home stage undefeated.


Basket Brno will have another chance in Pomerania as they meet the Tartu University tomorrow.
