Be all you can be – welcome, Donar Groningen!




The 2026 Dutch Basketball Cup winners Donar Groningen will play in the European North Basketball league for a third consecutive season.


It marks a fourth consecutive season when teams from the Netherlands and the BNXT league – a joint tournament for clubs from Belgium and the Netherlands – are represented in competition.


Royal Liège Basket advanced to the 2024 playoffs and conquered a bronze medal at the Final Four in Aarhus, Denmark.


Donar Groningen have a second best result so far as they made the Last Eight in March 2026.


A team coached by Jason Dourisseau posted a 5-3 record in the regular season and won their first playoff game against BK Opava to advance to the 2026 quarterfinals.


Donar registered back-to-back-to-back-to-back home wins against TalTech/ALEXELA, Fyllingen Lions, Alkar Sinj and BK Opava.


Austin Luke had 14 assists in a 103-86 win over the Czech club, tying a second best result in ENBL history.


Groningen run was eventually stopped by the 2025 German Cup winners, SYNTAINICS MBC.


Three of five Donar losses were against the Bundesliga club, including two setbacks on the road.


Jason Dourisseau is the 2026 ENBL Coach of the Year.


A former Nebraska Cornhuskers wing (2002-2006) has a legendary status in Groningen.


Omaha, Nebraska born Dourisseau represented Donar from 2009-2014 and then again, from 2015-2020.


He helped Groningen to win five Dutch championships (2010, 2014, 2016-2018), four Dutch Cups (2010, 2014, 2017, 2018) and two Supercups (2015, 2017).


Jersey number 8 is retired by Donar.


Dourisseau`s other stops included Ludwigsburg (2006-2008), KR Reykjavik (2008-2009, Iceland champion), Würzburg Baskets (2014-2015) and Aris Leeuwarden (2023).


Jason Dourisseau took the coaching reins of Donar Groningen on December 3, 2024, after the club parted ways with Andrej Štimac.


Eight days later Dourisseau posted his first win in the ENBL, defeating Spartak Pleven, 87-84, at the martiniplaza, while playing without star center James Karnik.


Groningen team lost the next two games and didn`t qualified for the 2025 ENBL playoffs, while averaging 2 350 fans for the regular season games at the martiniplaza.


It was a second highest attendance in competition – Donar trailed only to nine time German champions Bamberg Baskets (3 395 fans on average).


Jason Dourisseau has a 7-7 record in the ENBL after Donar Groningen postes two wins and six losses in their debut season.


Donar Groningen won the 2026 Dutch Basketball Cup (DBL Cup), securing their eighth title by defeating Landstede Hammers Zwolle, 78-77, on Sunday, March 22.


It happened exactly two weeks after a club`s 75th anniversary game.


Donar Groningen was founded in 1951 as a student basketball club GSSV Donar.


Team became professional in 1973.


It had numerous sponsors in its name but from 2014 plays under the non-sponsored name Donar.


The team has played in various European competitions from 1974.


Groningen participated at the Euroleague qualifiers in the autumn of 2010.


Donar Groningen reached the 2018 FIBA Europe Cup semifinals and played the eventual winner – Umana Reyer Venezia.


Donar Groningen have seven Dutch Basketball league titles – 1982, 2004, 2010, 2014, 2016-2018.


Trophy case includes eight Dutch Cups (2005, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2026) and three Supercups (2014, 2016, 2018).


The team plays at the amazing martiniplaza.


An indoor arena was built in 1969 and expanded in 2000 – martiniplaza has a 4300 capacity.


A season before the team averaged 2900 spectators – the most spectators among all indoor sports in the Netherlands.


Donar Groningen has a mascot – Thunder.


Club logo features two eagles, inspired by the coat of arms of the city of Groningen.
